One of the most popular activities at the Galapagos Islands

The snorkeling possibilities in the Galapagos waters are

the best. The rich and varied life in the Galapagos waters make of this underwater
kingdom an amazing addition to the already magnificent life on land.
The many species of fish of all colors, shapes and sizes
that inhabit these waters is really vast. They share their habitat with
lobsters, corals, anemones, seaweed, sea stars and thousands of other marine
life species spread out throughout the various diving sites throughout the
archipelago, allowing you to experience something new and exciting almost every
day.
One of the most popular snorkeling sites is Leon Dormido
(Kicker Rock) in San Cristobal Island, giving you the best experience of the
air, land and marine life in one place. You can snorel along the extinct
volcano ash rocks, and through its passage where you can find numerous sea
turtles, a few hammerhead sharks, as well as a large group of spotted eagle
rays, porcupine fish and numerous reef sharks circling a large, loose bait ball
of smaller fish.
Our next favorite snorkeling site is at the Floreana Island,
which is special because of its rich and interesting history. It encompasses
whalers, convicts, pirates and a group of colonists who chose a quiet
lifestyle. What makes this site special, is the chance to snorkel on top of a
submerged volcano crown. Best known as Devil’s crown, this site is great for
snorkeling thanks to a prevailing current that takes you inside and around the
volcano’s crown. No water themed park compares to this wonder of nature! The
Devil’s Crown, thanks to its protected waters, is home to numerous marine
species that turn this magnificent dive site into something amazing. Some of
the species include moray eels, yellow-tailed grunts and a wide variety of
corals, tropical fishes and many other interesting creatures that you have to
come see to believe.
We continue our diving bonanza at the James Bay on Santiago
Island. This snorkeling site can be accessed from shore instead of a dinghy.
This alone makes it very different from other sites in Galapagos. While ashore
you can see a fair number of both California and Fur Sea Lions. Many lucky visitors
can spot both species while snorkeling at James Bay. Sloping down from the
black sandy beach into a rocky bottom, we are greeted with a crowd of green sea
turtles that enjoy hiding and grazing, not to mention the always playful
Galapagos penguins that are always fun to see.
